Do mosquitoes reach high floors, and do you need mosquito nets there?
Fewer reach them, but they do arrive. Mosquitoes ride up in lifts and stairwells, come through corridors and breed in plant saucers on balconies. If you open windows or the balcony door in the evenings, a mosquito net pays off on any floor. High up, choose a system that stands up to the wind.

How mosquitoes get up high
Floors near gardens, pools and water get more of them. But no floor is completely out of reach.
- In the lift and the stairwell, together with people
- Through corridors and shared areas
- From plant saucers with standing water on balconies
- Carried by the breeze along the building

Step 1 of 5What opening is it for?
Wind tests mosquito nets high up
The higher the flat, the stronger the gusts on the balcony door. A light shop net or a frame on tape is the first to come off.
A pleated net runs in fixed top and bottom guides and closes on magnetic catches, so a gust does not lift it out of the opening.

Mosquito nets for a high-floor flat
Empty plant saucers and check the balcony drain.
Usually the balcony door and one bedroom window.
The surveyor looks at how exposed the opening is and chooses the system for it.
Strong wind and dust mean closed windows, net or no net.
Balcony nets do not stop falls
Mesh on a balcony door or window stops insects only. It does not hold weight, so children and pets still need the railing and a locked door.
Ask the building first
Anything on the balcony side may need building management's approval. Check with them before ordering. Our note on towers lists what to ask.
What our clients say
The existing nets had holes from sun damage. They replaced them with UV-resistant mesh that should last much longer.
We wanted nets that wouldn't block the view too much. They installed very fine black mesh that's almost invisible from inside. Perfect.
The nets in the guest room were torn and looked messy. They replaced them with new fiberglass mesh and the room looks fresh again.

Questions and answers
Is any floor free of mosquitoes?
No floor is fully safe. Higher floors get fewer, but mosquitoes arrive through lifts, stairwells and balconies with plants.
Will a net survive the wind on a high balcony?
A fitted pleated net in fixed guides with magnetic catches holds far better than a tape-on frame or a magnetic curtain. In a shamal, close the balcony door as well.
Do I need screens if I never open the windows?
No. A window that stays shut needs no net. Screen only what you open.
Will a net spoil the view from a high floor?
A pleated net folds into its side cassette when open, so the view is clear. Closed, a dark mesh is the easiest to look through.
