Magnetic mosquito net curtain or a fitted screen?
A magnetic curtain from a shop is cheap, goes up in minutes with adhesive tape and closes behind you. Here it rarely lasts long: heat softens the adhesive, sand wears the thin fabric and the strips start to peel. For a short rental season it is fine. For a home you stay in, a fitted screen pays off.

Why a magnetic curtain wears out
It hangs on adhesive tape, and adhesive does not like heat. The fabric is thin and flaps in the wind, and the magnets drift out of line as it stretches.
Children and pets walk straight through it, which pulls it off the frame sooner.
Sand is the other enemy. It collects at the floor where the fabric drags and grinds at the seams around the magnets.

When a magnetic curtain is enough
A rented flat for one season, a door you rarely use, or a quick test of whether you need a screen at all. For these it does the job.
It also works as a test: hang one for a few weeks and see which door really lets the insects in, before paying for a fitted screen.

For one season, a curtain is honest
A magnetic curtain honestly solves a rented flat for one season. We say so plainly, even though we only make fitted screens.
Which doors suit a curtain
A curtain needs a flat frame to stick to all around a hinged door. A sliding door has a moving leaf and a track, so a curtain there covers only part of the opening.
- Suits: a hinged door in shade, used by adults
- Struggles: a door on the sunny side, all day
- Fails: a wide sliding patio door or a windy terrace
What our clients say
The existing nets had holes from sun damage. They replaced them with UV-resistant mesh that should last much longer.
We wanted nets that wouldn't block the view too much. They installed very fine black mesh that's almost invisible from inside. Perfect.
The nets in the guest room were torn and looked messy. They replaced them with new fiberglass mesh and the room looks fresh again.
Before you buy a magnetic curtain
- Measure the door inside the frame, not the wall around it
- Check the tape sticks to your frame: painted wood, aluminium and uPVC behave differently
- Look at where the magnets meet: they should close without gaps down to the floor
- Keep the receipt: shop terms are the only warranty it has

Questions and answers
How long does a magnetic net last?
It depends on sun and use. The adhesive and thin fabric age fastest on a sunny door that is used all day.
Can you fit a magnetic net for me?
No, we make fitted screens only. A pleated door screen also closes with magnetic catches, on a proper frame.
Can I walk through it with my hands full?
Yes, that is what a curtain is for: you push through and it closes behind you. A pleated screen needs one hand to slide it, and it stays where you leave it.
Is a magnetic curtain safe with children and pets?
It is soft, so nobody gets hurt walking into it. It comes off the frame sooner, though, and a cat quickly learns to push through it both ways.
