Mosquito nets for a rented apartment
Ask your landlord first, in writing. Fitted screens are fixed to the window or door frame, and some can be installed without drilling into it: the surveyor tells you which on the spot. A made-to-measure screen can come with you when you move, but it only fits an opening of the same size.

Which mosquito nets need no drilling
Some framed window screens hold on clips that hook over the window frame, so nothing is drilled. Whether your windows allow it, the surveyor sees at once.
On a sliding balcony door, a screen may run in a spare channel of the existing track. Send a photo of the track from above and we tell you if there is room.
What to ask the landlord
And may anything be fixed to the frames.
Some landlords like screens left behind.
Sometimes the landlord shares the cost.
Ask whether the building management needs to approve.
Which mosquito nets move with you
| Screen | On moving day |
|---|---|
| Clip-on framed screen | Lifts out, fits a same-size window |
| Pleated net | Can be removed, the fixing points stay on the frame |
| Magnetic curtain | Peels off, may leave adhesive marks |
Not every system goes on without drilling
A pleated door screen always needs its guides fixed to the frame. If the landlord says no fixings at all, a pleated net is off the table.
Balcony doors in a tower
High floors are windy. A screen on the balcony door should close firmly on its magnets, and it is worth keeping the door shut when a shamal blows.

A short note to the landlord
Keep it short: which openings, which kind of screen, whether anything is fixed to the frame, and who keeps the screens at the end. Attach the photos you send us.
After the survey, forward our note on fixings to the landlord. A clear question gets a clear answer faster.
What our clients say
The existing nets had holes from sun damage. They replaced them with UV-resistant mesh that should last much longer.
We wanted nets that wouldn't block the view too much. They installed very fine black mesh that's almost invisible from inside. Perfect.
The nets in the guest room were torn and looked messy. They replaced them with new fiberglass mesh and the room looks fresh again.
Getting the deposit back
Before the survey, photograph the window and door frames as they are. If marks are questioned at move-out, you have a record from before the screens.
Leaving the screens for the next tenant is often the simplest ending: the landlord gets an upgrade, and you skip removal and filling holes.

Questions and answers
Can I take the screens when I move?
Yes, they are yours. They are made to measure, so they will fit your next home only if the openings are the same size.
Will the landlord allow it?
That depends on your landlord and building, so ask before the survey. A written yes saves arguments later.
Will fitting damage the frame?
A no-drill screen leaves no marks. A pleated net leaves small fixing points where its guides were, which is why the landlord's yes comes first.
I rent a villa, not a flat. Is it the same?
Yes, the same rule: the landlord's written yes first. A villa has more doors to the garden, so agree which openings you screen and who keeps the screens.
