Are mosquito nets safe for children?
Yes, as a barrier against insects. A pleated mosquito net has no spring that flies back up, its cords run hidden inside the pleats, and nothing sits on the floor to trip over. But no mosquito net holds a child's weight. Above the ground floor, the net protects from bites and a window lock protects from falls.

Why pleated mosquito nets suit a nursery
The mesh folds into a narrow cassette at the side. It does not wind up on a spring, so it never snaps back when a small hand lets go.
The cords stay tensioned inside the pleats, with no hanging loop. Magnetic catches hold the net closed, so a toddler does not leave a gap by accident.

A screen is not a fall barrier
Mesh gives way under a leaning child as easily as under a cat. On any window above the ground floor, fit a window lock or restrictor as well: the screen is there for insects only.
Make the child's room safe
A lock or restrictor stops the sash opening wide. Ask your window supplier or building management which one fits.
Usually the window you open for air and the balcony door.
A bed or toy box under the window turns it into a climbing spot.
Look for tears, loose catches and a gap at the edge.
Mosquito net fabric for a family home
| Fabric | Where it fits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard mesh | Windows in bedrooms and the nursery | from 350 AED per m² |
| Reinforced premium | Doors that children push and run through | from 600 AED per m² |
| Anti-cat mesh | Homes with children and pets together | from 800 AED per m² |
A stronger fabric lasts longer under hands and toys. It still does not hold a child's weight.
Doors children run through
The balcony or garden door takes the hardest use. A pleated door net runs on a low flat bottom track, so there is no raised sill to trip over.
Closers bring the leaf to a soft stop, and magnetic catches keep it shut behind a child who forgets to close it.

What our clients say
The existing nets had holes from sun damage. They replaced them with UV-resistant mesh that should last much longer.
We wanted nets that wouldn't block the view too much. They installed very fine black mesh that's almost invisible from inside. Perfect.
The nets in the guest room were torn and looked messy. They replaced them with new fiberglass mesh and the room looks fresh again.

Questions and answers
Can a child push through a mosquito net?
Yes. Any mosquito mesh gives way under enough pressure. Stronger fabrics last longer under small hands, but none of them is a safety barrier.
Are the cords in a pleated net dangerous?
The cords run tensioned inside the pleats, with no loose loop hanging down, so there is nothing for a child to pull out and wrap around.
Which window in a nursery needs a net?
The one you open for air. A window that stays closed and locked does not need a net.
Does a window net replace a cot net?
At home, yes, if every opening in the room is screened or kept closed. A cot net is still handy for travel and rooms without screens.
