How to clean a mosquito net without ruining it
Take a framed screen off, lay it flat and wash it with a soft brush, mild soap and plenty of water, then let it dry before refitting. Wiping it in place with a cloth pushes sand deeper into the weave. A pleated net stays where it is: clean it gently in place.

Why wiping in place makes it worse
Sand is abrasive. A cloth drags the grains across the threads, rubs off the coating and pushes fine dust deeper into the weave.
The mesh also stretches under the pressure of your hand and starts to sag.
How to clean a framed mosquito net
Vacuum from outside with a brush nozzle on low power.
On a towel or grass, never propped against a wall.
Soft brush, mild soap, light strokes along the threads.
A garden hose, not a pressure washer.
Refit only when the frame and mesh are fully dry.
Pleated mosquito nets: clean in place
A pleated net is not taken off. Pull it closed, brush off the dust, then wipe gently with a damp sponge, top to bottom.
Leave it closed until it dries, so damp pleats do not stick together in the cassette. Brush the sand out of the bottom track.

What actually destroys screens
- A pressure washer at close range
- Bleach, solvents and glass cleaners with ammonia
- Stiff brushes and scouring pads
- Folding a wet pleated net back into its cassette
What our clients say
The existing nets had holes from sun damage. They replaced them with UV-resistant mesh that should last much longer.
We wanted nets that wouldn't block the view too much. They installed very fine black mesh that's almost invisible from inside. Perfect.
The nets in the guest room were torn and looked messy. They replaced them with new fiberglass mesh and the room looks fresh again.
How often is worth it
A dry vacuum after each dust storm keeps grit from settling in. A proper wash before the cool season, when windows start to open, is usually enough.
When to stop cleaning and re-mesh
If the mesh is brittle, crackles when pressed or has gone grey and chalky, washing will only tear it. Change the fabric instead: re-meshing starts from 200 AED.

Questions and answers
Can I use a pressure washer?
Better not. The jet stretches the mesh and can push it out of the frame. A garden hose is enough.
Can the mesh go in a washing machine?
No. The mesh is fixed in the frame and a drum would crease and tear it.
